How to perform SEA Failover by Moving SEA to Standby state ?

Answer :

One of the method to perform SEA fail over is to change the PRIMARY vios1 SEA state to standby so that BACKUP vios2 SEA will become PRIMARY.

To change SEA state from auto to standby execute "chdev -l entX -a ha_mode=standby" where entX is vios1 SEA.

# lsdev | grep -i Shared
entX         Available             Shared Ethernet Adapter

# entstat -d entX | grep -i state

    State: PRIMARY
LAN State: Operational
LAN State: Operational

# lsattr -El entX | grep -i ha_mode
ha_mode         auto     High Availability Mode                                                             True

# chdev -l entX -a ha_mode=standby
entX changed

# lsattr -El entX | grep -i ha_mode
ha_mode         standby  High Availability Mode                                                             True

# entstat -d entX | grep -i state

    State: BACKUP
LAN State: Operational
LAN State: Operational

There will be state change in vios2 SEA and it will transit from BACKUP to PRIMARY as given below.

# lsdev | grep -i shared
entY         Available             Shared Ethernet Adapter
# entstat -d entY | grep -i state

    State: BACKUP
LAN State: Operational
LAN State: Operational
# entstat -d entY | grep -i state

    State: PRIMARY
LAN State: Operational
LAN State: Operational

Where entY is SEA of vios2
